About the artist...
Rosemary has been creating artistic paintings and etchings for over 40 years. Her artistic painting and etchings include: Japanese Sumi-e painting, water colors, Scrimshaw and more recently painting on gourds.
Her works depict plants, animals and symbols that reflect a love for nature and the environment. Many of her gourds were home grown in Santa Barbara, California. Her gourds are dried and cleaned by hand, prior to sketching, painting, wood burning and etching.
Upon moving to Santa Fe (2006) she bought her unfinished gourds with her. Her work with gourds is done with simple hand tools rather than machines to create an old world artistic quality that makes each of her works really unique and timeless.
Rosemary received her training in the arts in New York and has a BA and MS in Education and an MS in Special Education. Prior to moving to Santa Fe she was a special education teacher in New York and was owner/director of a Child Care Center in California. She is currently an active member of the New Mexico Gourd Society and the Eldorado Arts & Craft Association.
